ABOUT US
Global Collaboration on Traumatic Stress
Collaborating on topics of global importance
The Global Collaboration on Traumatic Stress
consists of researchers and clinicians from around the world collaborating on topics of global importance....
Trauma is a global issue
Worldwide trauma is the norm rather than the exception (Schnyder, et al., 2017; Kessler et al., 2017). The great majority of the global burden of disease arising from mental health conditions occurs in low and middle income countries. Furthermore, traumatic experiences, trauma-related symptoms, as well as treatment approaches differ across cultures. Finally, trauma does not stop at borders. As ESTSS president Jana Javakhishvili said it: "Together we are stronger" (June 14, 2019, ESTSS Conference, Rotterdam).
Aims
"To identify objectives, facilitate development, and coordinate activities of global importance [..] the community of traumatic stress researchers and practitioners should develop collaborations, and ultimately structures, that would enable them to optimally respond to those tasks that are best addressed by means of international collaboration” (Schnyder et al., 2017).
